Happy New Year to you all

Sadly the iceand snow delayed some rides throughout the Christmas Holidays and January.

However, when it was safe to ride and be around the horses, a lot of people braved the cold and came out for rides and Own a Pony mornings as well as normal rides.

If you are unsure if your lesson / ride will be on because of the Snow please call the stables.

A Superb Scottish Adventure and Wonderful Wedding

Congratulations,

and all the very best to the happy couple.

Some travelled up to Scotland to the wedding of a long term Copley-ite.

It was a fabulous wedding, and horses, humans and dog sent up a card and a gift to the special couple.

Two of us then had the opportunity to see a bit of Edinburgh, here we are preparing to storm the castle and trying to tell a statue how to improve its riding position

Results :

4 riders gained Test 1

7 riders gained Test 2

4 riders gained Test 3

Your certificates will be awarded at the Christmas Dinner (04/12/09), if you are unable to attend please see Wendy.

The Riding School Tests were held at the stables, and were monitored by an external examiner.

Some joined a pre-Test Own A Pony morning, which helped them to iron out some knowledge and some nerves.

Everyone and everypony did their very best for the day and all did very well.

Riders wishing to take further tests are advised to attend a Day Course in the holidays, or an OAP morning (Held every Sat & Sun) to be properly prepared for the next tests.

Medieval Games Taster Day

Results

1st Place : Order of the Red Rose

2nd Place : Order of the Green Oak

We held a Medieval Games Taster Day at the riding school, it was a
fun introduction for adults and children alike, with riders from the stables, and from a local re-enactment group part of Regia Angolorum.

Lord Copley called for a tournament and divided the riders into two teams (The Order of the Red Rose and the The Order of the Green Oak).

Over three sessions, according to ability (Knights, Pages, Squires), everyone had a go at sword, spear and lance, first some practice goes, then a chance to earn some points. Some riders were lead by volunteers who worked really hard, while trying not to get their heads chopped off by foam weapons.

Everyone who took part joined in with a really positive spirit, they all pulled their weight with helping on the ground and sorting out ponies, and some parents took the photos for us. Most of the kids didn't want to leave at the end of the day.

Prizes were awarded at the end of the day. A Shield with a golden horses head (and bragging rights) to the winning team and a wooden spoon with a silver horses' head to the runners-up. These are to be kept in the stables to be fought over in the future. Each competitor was awarded a sealed scroll and a gold or silver coin from the treasury of Lord Copley.

All in all, it was a smashing day.

MANY THANKS

Thanks to everyone who helped in many tasks before, during and after the day. Thanks to Wendy, Ponies, Supporters, Marshals, Lord Copley, Photographers, competitors and everyone who took part and helped before, during and after the day. Your positive and fun attitudes really made the day a success.

Own a Pony Week

All the fun of owning a pony for a week.

Some riders came for the full week and others for individual days.

They all had lots of chances to ride and learn about looking after their ponies, as well as chances to win points in horse care, gymkhana games and other skills too.

A big thanks to those that took part and the ponies, especially one who let the riders stick labels of points of the horse on her!

Gymkhana 1

The gymkhana was well attended and lots of fun

Lots of people came to the gymkhana. The weather was good and everyone on good form.

It was lovely to see so many taking part, and especially lovely to see the effort that went in to the Fancy Dress class.

Everyone who tried the new class of Ball and Bucket race did well. Also the lead rein jumping really was a cuase for some laughs, as those who thought they were too good for lead rein got beaten by a younger rider!

Thanks to everyone that helped and took part.

Photos and more updates to come soon.

Happy Birthday

Another year, another birthday and we headed to the Beaufort to celebrate it with our wonderful instructor. Even though it was very short notice there was a good turnout. One of the group brought a cake and we suprised the birthday girl with a rendition of Happy Birthday (suprisingly we didn't clear the pub with the same song!)

New Group Starts Games

Fun and Medieval Games

The first day of rain in a while saw a new group of riders start the medieval mounted games.

With a background in re-enactment the group are keen to add mounted skills as another string to their bows (Yes the terrible pun is intentional!) The riders all managed to have a go at the first of the games and did well.

Yum

A social BBQ was organised at short notice. Liveries, riders and ex-riders came to enjoy a lovely evening off-site on Bank Holidays Sunday.

They braved the elements as long as possible for the main part of the BBQ. But, common sense finally kicked in and they retired indorrs to enjoy a cuppa and some of the fabulous desserts that people brought with them.

A fun day at the Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Egg Hunt

10 youngsters took part in the Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Egg Hunt.

The Easter Bonnets were beautifully prepared and gave the judge a hard job to choose the winners. 2 Rosettes were awarded, 1 for best dressed rider and one for best dressed horse.

The Easter Egg Hunt allowed everyone to ride around the routes in groups. Some of the younger riders were lead by brave Mums, who definately deserved some of the eggs at the end. The older riders enjoyed their ride, but seemed less succesful at finding the eggs!

Big thanks to the judge, stewards, mums and everyone that took part to make the day a success.

Second Hot Cross Bun Ride see the sun against all odds!

Although the weather forecast was for high winds and rains, the sun shone on 'the righteous' (or at least 'the riders') today as the Second Hot Cross Bun ride went out through valleys and along cliffs.

First Hot Cross Bun ride went well despite a forecast of wind and rain.

The First Hot Cross Bun Ride went well. Some brave souls faced what was forecast as a wet and windy day, and ended up with a lovely ride.

Fortunately for the ride there was no rain, and their trip through the valleys kept them out of the worst of the wind. Both horses and riders returned with big smiles on their faces.

Thanks to everyone who took part.
