We held a Medieval Games Taster Day at the riding school, it was a
fun introduction for adults and children alike, with riders from the stables, and from a local re-enactment group part of Regia Angolorum.
Lord Copley called for a tournament and divided the riders into two teams (The Order of the Red Rose and the The Order of the Green Oak).
Over three sessions, according to ability (Knights, Pages, Squires), everyone had a go at sword, spear and lance, first some practice goes, then a chance to earn some points. Some riders were lead by volunteers who worked really hard, while trying not to get their heads chopped off by foam weapons.
Everyone who took part joined in with a really positive spirit, they all pulled their weight with helping on the ground and sorting out ponies, and some parents took the photos for us. Most of the kids didn't want to leave at the end of the day.
Prizes were awarded at the end of the day. A Shield with a golden horses head (and bragging rights) to the winning team and a wooden spoon with a silver horses' head to the runners-up. These are to be kept in the stables to be fought over in the future. Each competitor was awarded a sealed scroll and a gold or silver coin from the treasury of Lord Copley.
All in all, it was a smashing day.
